It has been reported that the decomposing body of woman has been found in funeral home – three years after her family thought she had been cremated. The development has left everyone horrified.
According to The Sun UK, Mary Alice Pitts Moore from Donalds, South Carolina, died from natural causes at the age of 63 in March 2015.
Her relatives believed she had been cremated after passing away.
But her body has now been discovered rotting at First Family Funeral Home – three years later.
The shocking blunder emerged after Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said a former employee at the home told his office about the body.
The remains were reportedly “unrecognisable” and Clevenger said it took two weeks to identify her because conventional means were not possible.
Clevenger said he spoke with family members, who were upset because they thought Moore had been laid to rest.
It is unclear if they received fake remains after what they thought had been her cremation.
The coroner said an investigation has been launched.
