Chimamanda recently bagged a Mary McCarthy award. A prestigious award only won before now by notable foreign authors such as Margaret Atwood (the author of The Handmaid’s Tale), Zadie Smith, Mona Simpson, and Susan Sontag.

The brilliant author became the first Nigerian to be a recipient of such honour and award which happened at an event held at Bard College, New York. The McCarthy award is named after famous novelist Mary McCarthy who taught at Bard College. It is given in acknowledgement of engagement in the public sphere by an intellectual, artist, or writer.
The award includes a $2,000 cash award, publication of a collection of short stories or novella and a standard royalty contract.
Chimamanda has been a recipient of several awards including one of the latest for her book Americanah which won the One Book One America award.
