Jack Wilshere confirms Arsenal departure/reveals Unai Emery influence on decision

Jack Wilshere confirms Arsenal departure/reveals Unai Emery influence on decision

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has this evening confirmed that he will depart the club upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the month.
Fitness struggles
Wilshere’s injury troubles over the course of his career have been widely covered in the press, with a string of lengthy spells on the sidelines having held the technically-gifted star back from a potentially top-class career.
Following a nightmare campaign during which he managed just 3 Premier League appearances for the Gunners in 2015/16, Wilshere was sent out on loan to Bournemouth for the ensuing season.
He managed a respectable 27 league outings with the Cherries, but a hairline crack in his calfbone in April ruled the marauding midfielder out until last August.
Return to form
Despite being heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates last summer, Wilshere surprisingly remained in North London, with his impressive early-season performances in the Carabao Cup and Europa League having led to a Premier League recall for the Englishman.
And Wilshere since went on to play a key role for the Gunners this past season, appearing 38 times across all competitions, with large sections of the club’s fanbase having subsequently called for the 34-time capped international to be handed a new contract.
Impasse
But, while most had initially viewed the contract talks between Arsenal and Wilshere as a mere formality, the reality over the last few months has proven to be far more complicated.
Wilshere was rumoured to have been left disappointed by the lowly wages on offer as part of a new deal tabled by the Gunners earlier this year (though he clarifies this matter in his message this evening), with the Englishman having admitted back in March that ‘things had changed’ with regards to his place at the club.
Moving on
This has since led to the gifted midfielder being linked with moves to a whole host of clubs both in England and across Europe, with the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Juventus and AC Milan all touted as potential destinations.
And, as revealed in a message on Wilshere’s official Instagram account a short time ago, his numerous suitors have tonight been dealt a massive boost in their respective chases of the 26-year-old, amid news that Wilshere will in fact be departing Arsenal at the end of the month, following the expiration of his contract.
In an emotional post, the English international reveals that he actually intended to sign a new contract containing a lower wage packet than his previous deal, but ‘a recent meeting with Unai Emery’ ultimately swayed him to seek pastures new:

Ubi Franklin Finally Opens Up On Failed Marriage To Actress Lilian Esoro

Actress Lilian Esoro’s ex-husband, Ubi Franklin , has finally opened up after divorcing his estranged wife .
Ubi, in a mature way on Instagram, seems to have revealed what went wrong in their marriage.
“When we put up with each other without love, then the result is grudges, resentment, hate, and a general dislike for others. Putting up with each other in love looks different. Our failure to bear with one another in love is why all sorts of relationships fail. Friends, we need to admit something. People are going to irritate us. And I know it is hard for you to imagine but you irritate people sometimes too. We would like to think that everyone else is the problem. But we need to consider that the problem is you. Can you imagine living with you? Can you imagine being around you with all of our quirks and idiosyncrasies? We must stop living with unreasonable expectations of others. We do not place these expectations on ourselves. We must stop living with unreasonable expectations of others. We do not place these expectations on ourselves. We are to bear with one another in love. We will not cease to love others because of their faults!”

Black Panther Star Wins MTV’s Best Hero Award

Black Panther Star Wins MTV’s Best Hero Award

Abuja – Superhero movie “Black Panther’ made a killing at the MTV Movie & TV Awards winning four trophies.
Black Panther,” the predominantly black movie that has taken more than $1.3 billion at the global box-office, won best movie, best villain for Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, and best performance and hero for star Chadwick Boseman.
Boseman, who plays the leader of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, gave his trophy to a man with no Hollywood connections on Monday.
“An award for best hero is amazing but it’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes we have in real life,” said Boseman.
He brought on stage James Shaw Jr., a 29-year-old electrician who overpowered a gunman who killed four people at a Waffle House outlet in Nashville in April to save the lives of more customers.
“This is gonna live at your house,” Boseman said, handing the trophy to Shaw.
“Black Panther” actor Winston Duke thanked fans for supporting the movie, which has smashed Hollywood doubts about the broader appeal of black films to become the third highest-grossing film of all time in North America.
“Thank you all for investing not just in a beautiful story but for investing in a continued conversation on what this industry and what this culture can achieve,” Duke said.
The youth-oriented MTV network, known for its irreverent award shows, again dispensed with gender classifications, placing men and women together in performance categories in a move to embrace equality and gender fluidity.
“Stranger Things” was named best TV show and Millie Bobby Brown, 14, won best TV performance for her role as Eleven.
The British teenager, who deleted her Twitter account last week after a slew of hate-filled comments, used her acceptance speech to speak out against bullying.
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it. There should be no space in this world for bullying and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should you,” Brown said.
The MTV awards feature blockbuster movie and popular TV shows and has established itself as an antidote to the winter Hollywood awards season, which honors more serious fare. Winners are chosen by fans voting online.
“Wonder Woman” actress Gal Gadot won for best fight, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” was voted best reality show, and the popular best kiss category was won by actors Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale for their Ferris wheel scene in gay teen movie “Love, Simon.”
MTV Movie & TV Awards host Tiffany Haddish won best comedic performance for her breakout role in the raunchy 2017 movie “Girls Trip.”
“Jurassic World” and “Avengers: Infinity War” actor Chris Pratt was given the annual Generation Award, joining the ranks of previous winners Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock and Will Smith.
Actress and writer Lena Waithe, who last year became the first black woman to win a screenwriting Emmy and who is also gay, was awarded the Trailblazer trophy. (NAN)

Egypt lose 3-1 to Russia, out of World Cup if Uruguay win

Egypt will become the first African team to crash out of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia if Uruguay win or draw their Match against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Egypt were thrashed by Russia 3-1 on Tuesday in their second match of the tournament.

Already, Russia have qualified for the Round of 16 after winning their two games played so far, scoring eight goals and conceding just one.

Russia opened scoring on 47 minutes through an own goal by Ahmed Fathy.

Aleksandr Golovin’s cross was punched clear by Mohamed El-Shenawy, but only as far as Roman Zobnin.

The Russian player took a terrible shot, which was definitely off target, and Ahmed Fathy turned the ball past his own keeper from about 12 yards out while trying to keep the ball away from Artem Dzyuba.

Russia made it 2-0 on 59 minutes through Denis Cheryshev. It was good play by Mario Fernandes, a former Brazil international, down the right and he squared to Villarreal winger Cheryshev, who slammed home from 12 yards out.
The host quickly added the third goal in the 62nd minute of the game through Artem Dzyuba.

Dzyuba controlled a high Ilya Kutepov ball into the box with his chest, took it past a weak Ali Gabr challenge and placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the net.

Egypt got a consolation goal when Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot on 73 minutes after VAL overturned referee’s earlier decision to award a free kick.

Salah stepped up and blasted a good penalty high into the back of the net – although it wasn’t overly central or into the corner.

Egypt will hope that Saudi Arabia upset Uruguay on Wednesday for them to have a mathematical chance of qualifying from the group. Uruguay just need a draw tomorrow to join Russia in the knockout stage.

Mbaye Niang Scores, Senegal Beat Poland 2 – 1 (Watch The Goals Highlight)

Poland midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak scored a goal but made a costly error as Senegal began their World Cup campaign with victory.

Poland Vs Senegal: Teranga Lions Lift African Spirits

Senegal’s Teranga Lions made Africans here in Moscow proud on Tuesday evening with a 2-1 defeat of Poland at the Spartak Stadium in their opening Group H match.

Africans at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia have been wearing forlorn faces after four of their five teams lost.
But Senegal gave signs of making the difference by holding their own before the 44,190 crowd who were witnessing a match fought from end to end in the opening minutes.
The Poles did hold the advantage in possession though, but after a neat move in the 37th minute, Senegal opened scoring.
Idrissa Gueye’s shot was deflected in by Thiago Cionek to give the Lions a deserved lead.
Senegal knew what they needed to do thereafter, holding off Poland to take their advantage into the second half, when they tightened the back and still surged forward on the break.
Midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak was soon to make a costly error, playing a high, aimless back pass.
Striker M’Baye Niang controlled the ball ahead of an advancing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny before tapping into an empty net.
Krychowiak however pulled a goal back in the 86th minute with a header from Kamil Grosicki’s free-kick but Senegal held on.
Poland are the group’s highest-ranked side at number eight, but they struggled to create further chances with a free-kick from captain Robert Lewandowski one of just four shots on target.
Senegal who are making only their second World Cup appearance now lead the group ahead of Japan, who beat Colombia 1-0 earlier on Tuesday.
Senegal’s victory has now become a breath of fresh air for Africa since Friday when Egypt lost their opening Group A match to Uruguay at Ekaterinburg.
The Egyptians had lost to a Jose Gimenez 89th minute goal, and since then three other African teams have lost their opening group games.
Hours after Egypt’s loss, Morocco lost 0-1 to Iran at Saint Petersburg in a Group B match, through Aziz Bouhaddouz’s own goal in the fifth minute of added time.
Nigeria worsened the situation by losing 0-2 to Croatia at Kaliningrad on Saturday in Group D, through an Oghenekaro Etebo own goal and a Luka Modric penalty kick.
Tunisia went on to add to Africans’ misery on Monday by losing 1-2 to England in Group G at Volgograd.
They gave the game away in the first minute of added time when Harry Kane completed his brace with the winning goal.
Egypt face hosts Russia later on Tuesday in their second Group A game needing victory to stay on in the competition.
On Wednesday, Morocco too will be facing Portugal in a Group B match at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow needing a win to stay on.
Nigeria are playing on Friday at Volgograd, also needing to win to stay on from Group D.(NAN)

Ex-Boko Haram terrorists being recruited into Army, Police, others, CAN alleges

Ex-Boko Haram terrorists being recruited into Army, Police, others, CAN alleges

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has raised the alarm that Federal Government has allegedly directed police, army and other security agencies to recruit some former Boko Haram terrorists that were recently de-radicalised.
In expression of its dissatisfaction, the CAN asked the Federal Government should withdraw the directive because of its potency to compromise Nigeria’s security system.
Its President, Dr. Samson Ayokunle Olasupo, in a statement by his media aide, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, expressed worry that Nigerian security system was gradually being infiltrated by people of questionable characters.
Meanwhile, the Association has asked Federal Government to prevail on Adamawa State Government, to reverse the death sentence passed on five Christian youths alleged to have killed a Fulani herdsman.
The Association made reference to recent media report that indicated that Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri of a High Court in Adamawa State, sentenced Alex Amos, Alheri Phanuel, Holy Boniface, Jerry Gideon and Jari Sabagi to death for culpable homicide.
The convicts were said to have allegedly, on June 1, 2017, at Kadamun village in Demsa Local Government Area conspired and attacked three Fulani herdsmen, killing one of them, Adamu Buba, whose body was later found in a nearby river.
The convicts were also alleged to have maimed several cows in course of the confrontation.
The Association insisted that it does not support jungle justice or any criminality. But was unhappy that hundreds of Christians in Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Plateau states, are killed on daily basis, with neither arrest nor prosecution from the government.
It, thus, solicited the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari, in the death sentence passed on the Christian youths in Adamawa, even as it asked its legal team to carefully study the judgment to avoid miscarriage of justice and recurrence.

Lagos empowers survivors of domestic violence with skills, start-up fund

Lagos empowers survivors of domestic violence with skills, start-up fund

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) has concluded its first empowerment training programme for survivors desirous of accessing the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Trust Fund.
Coordinator of the DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi in a statement on Tuesday said the training was in line with the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s mandate on ensuring survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence receive a holistic response and a new lease of life.
She said from trends seen in cases handled so far, at least 70 per cent of survivors are afraid to walk out of an abusive relationship because they are financially dependent on the abuser, adding that the empowerment training program was therefore conceived to serve as a pathway to new beginnings for survivors and also rebuild their self-esteem.
She said the training was done in partnership with SME 100 Africa, a youth led organisation that inspires, empowers and equips young entrepreneurs and small and medium scale enterprises.
“Over a period of one month, participants were taken on different modules around the theme “Passion to Profit”. The modules include courses like Accessing my Passion, Developing a Vision, Matching my Skills with Visions, Goals Setting, Achieving your goals, Business & Professional Ethics, Assessing Demand & Market size, Estimating cost, Customer Segmentation and Effective Communication. They were also trained on Financial Resources: Sources of Capital, Money Management, Business Planning, Business Model canvass, Value Creation.
“Participants who are desirous of gaining employment were also trained. They were taken on the various topics like Navigating the Job Market, Employability skills, Problem solving, critical and creative thinking, Communication Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Teamwork, Effective Presentation Skills, Personal Communication and Intrapreneurship. They were also trained on Writing an effective CV/ Resume and How to Successfully Navigate Job Interviews,” Vivour-Adeniyi said.
The DSVRT Coordinator noted that at the end of the training, participants were given an opportunity to pitch their ideas to leading stakeholders in their respective industries.
“Most importantly, participants were assigned to mentors and given internship opportunities so as to further harness their skills and gain practical experience. There would also be opportunities for permanent job placements with support from Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, who are also actively involved in the empowerment programme,” she said.

Besides, Vivour-Adeniyi said successful participants would also receive a start up grant from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Trust Fund for their respective businesses ideas, reiterating that it was another initiative of the State Government on taking practical steps in providing a support system for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Lagos State.
She also encouraged residents to continue to dial *6820# to report cases of Rape, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse or call 112/ 0813-796-0048.

World Cup: Mixed reactions trail Nigeria’s loss to Croatia

World Cup: Mixed reactions trail Nigeria’s loss to Croatia

Football fans in Owerri, the Imo capital, have continued to react to the defeat of the Super Eagles at the hands of their Croatian counterparts.
The Super Eagles lost two goals to nothing courtesy of an own goal in the first half of play and a penalty in the second half.

Some of the supporters who spoke to the Newsmen on Sunday expressed sadness over the loss, casting doubts over the future of the country’s representatives at the soccer fiesta in Russia.
“Having lost the opening match, it has become more difficult to qualify for the next stage, with two compulsory wins in the remaining two group matches,’’ Mr Alex Ubagana said, adding “I am scared for us”.
Some of the supporters however were more enthusiastic of Nigeria’s chances, saying it is still an open door.
“Croatia did not score against us”, Miss Ogechi Ikedi said.
`An own goal and a penalty are not enough to crucify the Eagles because they really played well.
“If they can replicate today’s display against Iceland, the results will surely come in our favour,” she enthused.
Mr Uche Nwala, another supporter, blamed the match officials.
“I think the centre referee was biased,” he alleged.
“Sometimes the players even had to remind him to use the whistle.
“If you watch the replay, you notice that we were clearly denied more than twice. That is far from what you expect from an official on the world stage,” he said.
The Super Eagles are now at the last position in the group as they face Iceland and Argentina in the remaining group matches on June 22 and 26, respectively.

Nigeria vs Croatia : Our players played in the wrong positions – Okocha

Nigeria vs Croatia : Our players played in the wrong positions – Okocha

Abuja – Former Super Eagles midfield maestro, Jay Jay Okocha has blamed the Super Eagles’ 0-2 loss in the Nigeria vs Croatia World Cup game on lack of creativity.

Okocha, who was a guest on Super Sports TV, said the team lost because the players played in wrong positions which didn’t bring out the best in them.
“We didn’t have a creative midfielder today. Mikel Obi has been a great servant but I think his best position is sitting in front of the back four.
“We saw him play as a defensive midfielder in Chelsea and he did so well,” he said.
The veteran player also added that Alex Iwobi was the most creative midfielder in the national team at the moment but playing him as a winger “was taking his strength from him”.
“Iwobi can play from the wings in Arsenal because there is a Mesut Ozil who brings creativity.
“I think the only reason why we lost the Nigeria vs Croatia game is because our players played in the wrong positions and we didn’t get the best out of them,” he added.
Nigeria will take on Iceland on June 22 and play their last Group D game against Argentina on June 26. (NAN)

Nigeria vs Croatia : The defeat is a very sad one – Adepoju

Nigeria vs Croatia : The defeat is a very sad one – Adepoju

Lagos – Some football fans on Saturday described the Super Eagles opening match at the 2018 FIFA World in Russia as “`unimpressive”.
Mutiu Adepoju
The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Vatreni of Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium.
Mutiu Adepoju, an ex-international said that it was sad that the team could not get a point from their first match.
Adepoju advised the team’s coach Gernot Rohr to calm the players down and restrategise ahead of their second group match.
“”The defeat is a very sad one, going into the game. I previewed that the encounter against Croatia would not be easy owing to their level of technicality.
“”The coach should come up with another game plan for the next match and also calm the players down,” he said.
Ifalade Oyekan, a board member of the Lagos State Football Association, told NAN that the players should step up their game.
Oyekan urged Nigerians not to write the team-off in the competition.
“”It is very unfortunate that the team was defeated but Nigerians should not be discouraged because this is football where anything is possible,” he said.
Also, Idowu Hassan, a grassroots coach in Lagos, told NAN that the Super Eagles formation against The Blazzers was bad.
Hassan urged the coach to come up with formidable tactics in their next encounter against Iceland.
“The formation adopted by Rohr cost us this game, if we still want to remain in the competition, the coach must come up with something better in our next match.
The NAN reports that The Super Eagles would play against the Strakarnir Okkar of Iceland on June 22 at the Volgograd Arena.

Rumble in Owerri Anglican Dioceses

Rumble in Owerri Anglican Dioceses

A replica of the Ahiara Catholic dioceses crisis may be played out in the Diocese of Owerri (Anglican Communion) following the retirement of Right, Reverend Cyril Okorocha and subsequent installation of a three man committee appointed by the retiring cleric.
According to a reliable source, appointment of the three man committee by the outgoing bishop did not go down well with Primate of the Church of Nigeria and Metropolitan Bishop, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh who was said to have been informed by Okorocha before his exit.
Sunday Sun further reliably gathered that Primate Okoh subsequently appointed the Bishop of Ikeduru diocese, Right Reverend Emmanuel Maduwuike to take over the management of the diocese for the meantime pending the when a new priest would be duly appointed .
Presently, crisis brewing in the Dioceses is said to have divided the congregations and priests into two camps as some aggrieved priests has vowed to resist Okorocha’ s committee. They , insist that due process must be followed in the selection of another bishop of the dioceses.
The crisis also according to a source has forced worshippers of the cathedral to worship elsewhere rather than the cathedral.
Attempt by our our correspondent to speak to any of the clerics proved abortive . A worshipper in the cathedral who do not want his name mentioned appealed to both sides to tread with caution , according to him “unless it degenerates to the Ahiara crisis in Mbaise”.

2019 Election: “Prophet Reveals What God Told Him About Buhari And Atiku”

The Presiding Bishop of Divine Seed of God Chapel Ministries, Prophet Wale Olagunju is known for his predictions.

The man of Godin the heat of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s romance with President Muhammadu Buhari had predicted that a serious fight would break out between the two leaders, a forecast that failed to come to fulfillment until recently.

In an interview with Daily Sun, the prophet provided insight into the 2019 general elections and other issues of national importance. Excerpt:

It would be recalled that a national newspaper criticized your prediction of January 1, 2017 that there was going to be a serious fight between incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a failed prophecy. Now with the turn of event, how do you react to the write up?

Well, I have written a letter to the editor and they are yet to reply. When you look at the prophecy in question, I did not indicate a date. When you talk about prophecy, it can come to fulfillment anytime and that is why we are witnessing what we are witnessing today.

The writer wrote that Obasanjo did not write any acerbic letter, not quite long after, the ex-President wrote an acerbic letter and here we are today the incumbent is probing Obasanjo’s power project, so there is serious fight now between the duo. That is a public affirmation of the prophecy.

For me, I have filed my case in the court of the Almighty God who rules and judges the affairs of men. How can someone criticize and condemn the words of the Almighty on which He places more honour than even His name.

They have committed a serious sin against the Almighty. The case is presently in the court of the Almighty that rules and judges in righteousness. I pity the writer and those behind the publication.

Now that the Federal Government has threatened to commence a probe of former President Obasanjo’s £16 billion power project, what has the Lord told you would be the result of the fight by these two elephants?

Yes, we have been hearing about probes in this country. I don’t think any reasonable thing would come out of it. What informed the probe was that Obasanjo is no more supporting Buhari. If Buhari means business, let him probe all past leaders.

Today, if you criticise President Buhari, you are in for it. If Buhari is no more probing Jonathan, why must he probe Obasanjo? Why did he single out Obasanjo, simply because the Ota man is no more supporting him?

President Buhari’s intention to run for second term in the 2019 is no more news. Does the incumbent have any divine backing to emerge winner?

In your 2018 prophecy you claimed that God told you that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo would not only forgive Atiku but that he would also throw his weight behind him in his bid for the Presidency. Considering the present political trend, are you sure this is still going to happen?

Yes, as Almighty God who knows the heart of man lives, Obasanjo will forgive and support Atiku for the presidency.

And Atiku will defeat Buhari come 2019 Presidential Election. Did you read The Sun Newspaper publication of May 27, 2018, where General Jemibewon, in an interview, vowed to stake his neck in support of Atiku’s bid for the Presidency?

So, notable Nigerians would support and root for Atiku come 2019. I am not campaigning for Atiku, whatever comes out of my mouth is based on revelation that I received from God. To me, it is idiotic and stupid for anybody to say I have collected Ghana-Must-Go from Atiku. Let us wait till 2019 and see.

Russia 2018: We”ll deliver as expected, Super Eagles assure after Egypt, Morocco opening losses

We”ll deliver as expected, Super Eagles assure after Egypt, Morocco opening losses

NAN

Super Eagles’ head coach Gernot Rohr and captain Mikel Obi say the team is capable of delivering on its promise on Saturday against Vatreni of Croatia.
The Nigerian side will face Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium in their opening Group D match at the FIFA World Cup, needing to win for a bright start.
This will be against the backdrop of disappointing opening match losses by fellow African sides Egypt and Morocco on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Egypt had lost their opening Group A match at Ekaterinburg 0-1 to Uruguay, after an 89th minute goal by Jose Gimenez.
Morocco followed in their trail hours later with a 0-1 loss to Iran at St. Petersburg in Group B, falling to an own goal in added time by Aziz Bouhaddouz.
Rohr, who earlier in the day had addressed the media before the team’s training session, said he was sure that his team was in shape to get a good result.
“We know the importance of getting a good result. It is important that we set out well, and we have been doing our best to be in good condition, just like I said earlier today.
“Now that we are here and close to the hour, the players are in the right mood and ready for Croatia. We will do what is necessary,’’ he said.
Rohr assured that injuries were not the team’s worries at the moment, but how to get it right during the game.
“What we need to worry about is how to get our tactics right, and I am confident that we have done all that is necessary in this regard,’’ he added.
Team Captain Mikel Obi equally assured that his teammates were ready and raring to go against the Croats.
“As a team, we have done all that is needed, training and getting fit. We the players are also ready to do the job on the pitch as expected.
“I can assure Nigerians and all our other fans worldwide that we will do our best and ensure we do not disappoint them,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Africa’s two other representatives at the 2018 World Cup — Tunisia and Senegal — will join the fray on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Drama As Lawyer Abandons Evans

Drama As Lawyer Abandons Evans

Counsel to sspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has abandoned the accused to his fate.
Ogungbeje has declared that he was no longer interested in representing Evans in any of his criminal or civil matters again.
The lawyer who represented Evans in his multiple kidnapping, murder and attempted murder trials at the Lagos High Court and two civil suits at the Federal High Court in Lagos, cited “personal reasons” for his decision.
In a press statement issued on June 13, , the lawyer claimed that he and his colleagues in the matter had suffered threats to their lives.
He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that we have fought a good fight this far despite repeated and sustained threats to my life and my defence lawyers.
“I dare say we have no regrets whatsoever having conducted the criminal charges involving our client this far.
“For the sake of history, we have been able to enrich the basic principles of our criminal jurisprudence, especially the principle premised on ‘An accused person being presumed innocent until the contrary is proved’ no matter the public opinion and criticism”.
Ogungbeje also claimed that his team kept the Lagos State Prosecution team on its toes in the art of forensic, proper and thorough investigation and prosecution of the accused persons.
Evans was arrested on June 10, 2017 in his Magodo, Lagos mansion.
He is currently facing five criminal charges before three Lagos High Court judges, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo and Justice Adedayo Akintoye.
Evans had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge against him when he was first docked before Justice Oshodi but later made U-turned by changing his plea to not guilty before the court.
Then, Ogungbeje alleged that his client was forced to plead guilty to the charges preferred against him and others by the state government.
After that, all attempt by Ogungbeje to quash charges against Evans failed woefully and all the civil suits filed on behalf of his client were also dismissed by the Federal High Court Lagos.
On several occasions, Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey has accused Ogungbeje of trying to frustrate the speedy trial of the accused.

INCREDIBLE Ronaldo Scores Hat-Trick, Portugal Draw 3 – 3 Against Spain (Watch The Goals Highlight)

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning hat-trick earned Portugal a dramatic 3-3 draw in their Group B opener against Iberian neighbours Spain.

Spain led with three minutes to go after Nacho Fernandez hit a wonderful 25-yard drive but Ronaldo was determined to steal the headlines for himself.

And he ended the day with a World Cup match-ball after hitting an outrageous late free-kick to ensure the spoils were shared in this blockbuster clash in Sochi.

Captain Ronaldo had given Portugal a fourth-minute lead from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Madrid team-mate Nacho, restoring the lead thanks to David de Gea’s horrible mistake.

Diego Costa replied twice to get the 2010 champions level, with Nacho’s beautiful goal having seemingly settled a high-class encounter at the Fisht Stadium.

Ronaldo, though, had other ideas and stepped up to beat De Gea again with a perfect 20-yard free-kick, almost snatching all three points with a stoppage-time header.

Iran’s World Cup Fever Bursts Out Into The Streets

Iran’s World Cup Fever Bursts Out Into The Streets

Iranians had few options to watch their World Cup opener against Morocco, bar a few cinemas and cafes, but after their shock victory Friday, they burst out into the streets of Tehran in rare and wild celebration.

The mood had been dampened earlier in the day when the authorities announced that planned open-air screenings in parks and Tehran’s largest stadium had been banned without explanation.
Many had been excited about watching the match at Azadi (meaning “freedom”) stadium because it would have been the first time since the Islamic revolution that men and women could attend a sports event there together.
Instead, with no bars and mixed signals from police about whether cafes could screen the games, many of the city’s football-mad population turned to cinemas to vent their passion.
Supporters thronged the steps of one multiplex in central Tehran ahead of the match, chanting and deafening passers-by with blasts of vuvuzela.
There was a notably even split between men and women. Football is particularly popular among Iranian women, in part because they are banned from attending live matches, lending it an illicit air.
“We hoped to go to the stadium but we are very happy to come here with my family. I’m not that optimistic (that we can win) but I’m just happy to be in the World Cup -– that’s enough,” said Rahelleh, 32, with her young daughter in her arms and an Iran hat on her head.
But she was wrong.
An own goal by Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz in the 94th minute handed Iran their first World Cup victory in 20 years.
Within minutes, Tehranis had poured out on to the streets as if they had won the entire tournament.
Traffic on the city’s main north-south artery, Vali Asr Street, reduced to a crawl as hundreds of cars blasted their horns and jubilant fans hung out of windows waving the Iranian flag and screaming.
– ‘Feels great’ –
“We have not had many things to celebrate recently, so this feels really great,” said Amin, 30, as he watched an impromptu crowd of hundreds dancing and cheering in the middle of the street.
By midnight, pounding music and fireworks could be heard across the city and the whooping showed no sign of letting up.
Police appeared happy to let it continue despite such public displays of jollity — particularly men and women together –normally prohibited in the Islamic republic.
The victory was all the sweeter given the rough journey the players have faced, with Portuguese coach Carlos Quieroz complaining about limited resources and poor facilities for the squad.
The players were also the latest victim of US sanctions, with Nike refusing to provide the team with football boots, saying it would breach the US trade embargo on Iran.
That quickly gave rise to a popular meme on social media after the victory with the Nike logo and an altered slogan reading: “We just did it. Without you.”
The team faces a tall order in recreating Friday’s jubilation as they go on to face two of the world’s best teams in Spain and Portugal.
But Iranians always revel in being the underdog.
In a profile for GQ magazine this week, Quieroz said: “Iran loves football, and people know we have problems and now look at Iran differently, more respectfully because they know the challenges we have.”

Soldiers Clash With Police In Aba, 3 Dead (Full Details)

Three persons were on Friday reported dead in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State as personnel of the Nigerian Army attached to the Ngwa High.

School Forward Operation Base (Charlie Coy) and personnel of Mobile Police Force (PMF 55) unit in Osisioma Local Government Area of the State.

While a yet to be confirmed report has it that a police officer’s hand was severed in the shootout, another report has it that two mobile policemen and a soldier died in the melee.

It could be recalled that in 2015, soldiers from Ngwa High School FOB and policemen of PMF 55 clashed at the same Osisioma junction, leaving a policeman who was hit by a bullet during crossfire that lasted for about thirty minutes dead.

While efforts to reach both police and army hierarchy in the state until the time of this report failed to yield fruits as the State Commissioner of Police and the spokesman of the Command, Michael Ogbizi and Geoffrey Ogbonna were yet to reply to a text message our correspondent sent to their phones.

Sources who claimed to have witnessed the incident feared that incident which caused pandemonium at the major exit and entrance route into the commercial nerve of the state also wounded many passersby.

According to one Chinyere Ikem, the incident forced many shop owners to quickly close for business while many petty traders along the Expressway abandoned their wares to scamper for safety as lorry load of mobile and regular policemen arrived the scene that is already charged with gunshots.

Ikem said that while some passengers going to different parts of the country that were yet to board vehicles to their locations were trapped in the shootout, others coming into the country, used alternative routes to avoid being caught in the web of the crisis.

“It happened like what we used to watch in American movies. It happened in a flash and before you know what is happening, trucks of army and police vans were everywhere.

Police and army were shooting themselves face-to-face. From what we later learnt, two policemen and a soldier died in the gun duel. It is better seeing that being told. I don’t know what is happening at this Osisioma junction. Don’t forget that some time ago, police and army clashed here and shoot at each other leaving one policemen dead.

“I saw some people running with blood stain and I guess that they were hit be stray bullets. Police and army leadership in the state should call themselves to order.

They are sister agencies and I don’t think that it is in their own interest to be fighting among themselves when they are supposed to be working hand in hand with each other especially as the state Governor is doing his best in tackling insecurity in the state,” Ikem stated.

While normalcy has since returned to the area at the time our reporter visited the scene, shop owners were yet to open for business as people in clusters recount their experience of the incident.

However in a swift reaction, Abia State Government in a press release through the commissioner of information in the state, Chief John Okiyi said that the state received with sadness “disturbing reports of an unfortunate confrontation between a group of soldiers and police officers at the Osisioma area of Aba earlier today (Friday June 15).”

Okiyi who said that the state government was working with heads of security to bring the situation under control also assured that investigation was ongoing to know the cause of the incident and to fish out those behind the incident.

“We are working with the heads of the concerned security agencies in the state to ensure that the situation, which has been brought under control, does not repeat itself or escalate within the state.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also directed full investigation of the circumstances that led to the breach of public peace with a view to preventing future occurrence of such armed confrontation that endanger the lives of innocent citizens and security agents working in the state.

“While we are currently working with law enforcement agencies to review the immediate and remote cause of the incidence, members of the public are advised to go about their normal duties as the situation around the area has been pacified.

“Those responsible for this breach of public peace will certainly be unraveled and punished according the law,” Okiyi added.

2018 World Cup: Jose Mourinho Predicts Four Teams To Qualify For Semi-Final

Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho says Germany will again a enjoy a strong World Cup run in Russia this summer, predicting they will progress to an intriguing semi-final clash against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, RT reports.
RT exclusively reveals on Tuesday exactly how the Portuguese managerial great thinks the knockout stages will play out in Russia, all the way up to the final four.
The Special One believes the Germans’ World Cup pedigree will see them cruise out of their group and then see off Switzerland in a predicted last 16 match-up.
He then believes they will knock out a talented Belgium team containing the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, because “Germany is Germany.”
According to Mourinho’s powers of prediction, Joachim Low’s reigning champions will face Argentina in the last four in Russia – setting up a repeat of the final in Brazil four years ago, when Germany claimed a 1-0 extra-time win.
Mourinho believes their task will be equally as difficult this time around, facing “the little fellow” Lionel Messi and an Argentinian team laden with attacking threat.
On the other side of the draw, Mourinho has forecast his native Portugal to make a run to the semi-finals in Russia, where he believes they will face five-time winners Brazil.
Mourinho was clearly impressed with his picks for the final four this summer, saying: “Wow… look at this, two South Americans, the big rivals Brazil and Argentina. The European champion, the big Germany. That’s incredible!”
You won’t need to wait for long to find out exactly how the Manchester United sees the tournament playing out in the grand finale.
We’ll drop the next part of our Match Mourinho predictions playoff on Wednesday, when he will discuss the two semi-finals and final itself.
